Niagara
Falls Ringette needs to develop our own core of officials. We are looking for interested
individuals who would want to become an on ice official and wear the stripes
and work to become high level officials. To become a member this exciting part
of the game and wear the stripes of an official you need to be at least 14yrs
old and then take a series of on-line and class room courses.
This would be great opportunity for some of the dads, moms and brothers as well as the players to get involved with the games. There are many officials that got started by, since they were driving their daughters, sister or brother to a course decided to take the course too. At our last tournament I had a couple of father daughter teams Mother son team , sister and brother and sisters.
Once you take and finish and pass a level one course there is a system to help you develop called the SPOD program where they mentor officials, try to convince you to go tournaments where your rooms are paid for and you get paid to do officiate too.
You also get paid to officiate regular season games and depending what level you attain, will determine the number games you will be able to do. One official told me while in university he was able to do so many games on weekends it helped pay his way through school. I have used Brock students over the last couple of years to help out with games. One of our official, Brittany Smith, is away at school and is able to help out Kingston Ringette with their games.
I am extending this invite to everyone who is 14yrs or older but I am hoping some of the younger dads and moms as well as some brothers would consider it. If there is enough interest I can organize a come try officiating, Where we have you actually ref an exhibition games. If you have any questions feel free to email me or I will be at the banquet next Thursday. I will eventually be stepping down as Referee In Chief, and we will need someone in the near future to continue to develop our core.
